Welcome to BME Planet - a sustainable network for bioengineering innovation and translational research, a people-focused, parallel process. Our chief aims are to make visible the global fabric of this powerful field, and to harness global diversity to accelerate bioengineering impact on societal health and human dignity worldwide.
BME Planet is a consortium of universities, corporations, non-profit societies, and government organizations spanning six continents. This collaborative network aims to provide real-life education of new talent for the bioengineering workforce and enhanced translation of new bioengineering knowledge to products and services. The network has two primary areas of focus: upstream innovation and globally distributed design with multiple university-based hubs.
Highlights of BME Planet include:
- Multi-university undergraduate design projects
- International corporate internships
- Capstone incubators for translational technologies
- Emphasis on person-to-person links
- Enhanced corporate access to new markets
The formation of BME Planet is guided by the University of Virginia Department of Biomedical Engineering and supported by a National Science Foundation Partnerships for Innovation award.
BME Planet's initial partner list will be announced soon. JOIN NOW to be part of the initial launch event.
