Molecular Biologist, Research Scientist II
Vertex Pharmaceuticals is looking for a Scientist II to join our Gene Expression team.
The Gene Expression group seeks candidates with a broad understanding of the latest research in recombinant expression methods, having extensive hands-on experience producing cytosolic and membrane proteins using the Baculovirus-Insect cell system. The ability to maintain cell lines and perform all aspects, from DNA to liter-scale production is essential.
Strong expertise solving complex expression problems to ensure the efficient production of challenging target proteins for assays and structural work in drug discovery is critical. This includes experience with co-infection and multi-subunit protein expression. The successful candidate will have responsibility for applying and integrating emerging Baculovirus-Insect cell technologies and providing technical leadership to further advance our high throughput platform for recombinant protein preparation. Experience using experimental design software (DOE) is desired.
The ability to lead from the bench in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced and highly collaborative environment is important in this position, which also offers the opportunity to provide a mentoring role in the career development of other team members.
Candidates must demonstrate advanced communication skills and a high level of independent scientific ability, as demonstrated by patents, publications and invited speaking engagements.

- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or a related field with a minimum of 3-5 years experience, preferably in an industrial setting.
- Candidates with a B.S. with 10+ years of experience or M.S. with 7+ years of experience in drug discovery will also be considered
